Released sixteen days after Christopher Wallace was killed on March 9, 1997, Life After Death is the rare posthumous album that feels genuinely complete. Biggie had finished recording it before he died. What the world received was exactly what he intended: a sprawling double album that moved from street corners to penthouses, from grim crime narratives to crossover anthems, produced by Puff Daddy, DJ Premier, RZA, and Havoc with a guest list that included Jay-Z, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, Lil Kim, The LOX, and R. Kelly. Hypnotize debuted at number two on the Billboard Hot 100 and rose to number one after his death. Mo Money Mo Problems followed. Life After Death went on to sell over ten million copies in the United States alone. This 2014 Atlantic reissue is the standard 3xLP pressing of the complete album.
