Looking at the Front Door (7")

Main Source's first single on Wild Pitch Records and the lead-out for Breaking Atoms, and a genuinely unusual choice for a 1990 lead single, a melancholy breakup record built around a loop from Donald Byrd's Blue Note classic "Think Twice," with the hook lifted from The Pazant Brothers and Beaufort Express's "Chick A Boom." The B-side, "Watch Roger Do His Thing," is a different song entirely, not an instrumental, built on the same Funkadelic "You'll Like It Too" break later made famous on Eric B & Rakim's "I Know You Got Soul." Large Professor, still years from producing on Illmatic, delivers a quietly pointed stay-in-school message over an original organ line from JD Drumsticks, all with the light touch that became Main Source's signature.
