Released in 1991, The Low End Theory took boom bap somewhere it had never been. Q-Tip and Ali Shaheed Muhammad built a sonic architecture from jazz bass lines and hard drums, and in doing so wrote the foundation of New York underground hip-hop for the next decade. Every producer who followed owes something to this record.
