Naughty by Nature's 1991 self-titled debut turned three rappers from East Orange, New Jersey into a genuine crossover phenomenon. O.P.P. became a sing-along club classic, hitting No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100, but the album behind it held its own well past the single. Treach's rapid-fire delivery moved between street-level grit and radio hooks without losing credibility on either side, Queen Latifah appears on Wickedest Man Alive, and the record went platinum, a template other groups spent the rest of the decade trying to copy.
