Erykah Badu and The Alchemist, Abi and Alan, spent 18 months in Dallas and Los Angeles building Before the World Blows: The Abi and Alan Experiment, her first project in eleven years. Alchemist sent instrumental beats, and Badu deconstructed them into songs that move between soul, blues, funk, rock, jazz, and underground hip-hop, with Westside Gunn, Thundercat, Steve Lacy, Earl Sweatshirt, and Kamasi Washington.
