The College Dropout (CD)

Through the Wire, the first single pulled from Kanye West's Roc-A-Fella debut, announced the arrival of one of hip-hop's most important new voices in 2004, at a point where he was already known as the producer behind Ludacris's Stand Up, Alicia Keys's You Don't Know My Name, and Jay-Z's Encore. The College Dropout built gospel choirs and chipmunk soul into a debut that won the Grammy for Best Rap Album and reset expectations for what a rap record could sound like, Jesus Walks and All Falls Down chief among them.
